| That's a headache and a half. Have you seen the car? Have you driven the car? Do you like it? If so, THEN have him take it to a mechanic of your choosing. YOU pay for it. If he refuses, then walk away. AFTER it's been inspected, make an offer. If he accepts the offer, THEN leave a deposit with a SHORT note stating he will hold the car for a few days, till you get your money together. THEN you pay him. Like someone else said, if I were selling my car, and you had that note in hand, I'd laugh at you.
